Fairmont Mayakoba has me concerned (Updated-Fairmont gets an A+)

The Fairmont Mayakoba is a luxurious hotel in a jungle setting. It looks amazing. Soon we will find out for ourselves. One problem is that while I’m obsessively checking for the latest reviews, I keep seeing reviews that are 5 stars which are written by people who have never taken the time to write a review before! This makes me think many of them are fake! The Fairmont chain is HUGE and certainly their employees could be writing the reviews. Hopefully I am wrong! The 3 and 4 star reviews (on Tripadvisor) seem to be from people who’ve written many reviews, so I trust them more.  Hmmmm.

I sent them an email, also, and did not receive a reply. Is this strange? I think so! Soon I will check it all out 🙂 Their special of 100$ resort credit per day is too good to pass up and it’s in Playa del Carmen…one of my fave places in Mexico. I also like that there are free bikes all over the resort and  a cenote on the premises!

The wildlife aspect is also intriguing. I’ve been dying to see some monkeys or coati.

Yes, I will probably feed them. Yes, I know I should not, but what better way to make friends w a wild beast? It’s worked well at home w my foie gras eating Husky 🙂

The resort, as you can see, looks idyllic and peaceful. Too bad I don’t golf because they are known for having the only course which is part of the PGA tour in the area.

The complaints seem to be about food being overpriced (which the credit will help with but might not choose this hotel without that deal)  as well as  the distance from downtown Playa del Carmen.

It’s about a 10 min cab ride which means 15-17$ getting there.  We spent a lot of time there last time we were in Mexico (at The Royal Playa del Carmen-fab!!) because it was literally outside the hotel door.  It’s fun to walk around  there and mingle with international tourists…it’s a v touristy place is what I’m really saying. Cool but touristy. This time is more about relaxation and long beach walks and spotting wildlife. More bike rides and less margaritas, if you know what I mean 😉

UPDATE: We LOVED Mayakoba!! It was even better than the Royal, Playa del Carmen, which is saying a lot. We would definitely return. The casita had an amazing view and was SO comfortable. We used the bikes a lot. Some people hide them…FYI. The resort credit came in handy and paid for about 1 meal! Food here is very healthy. lots of gluten free and macrobiotic options. It is also VERY Expensive. Knowing this I would most likely do the all inclusive option, unless I planned on Intermittent fasting while there. I will write another post about this excellent Fairmont when I get a chance 🙂
