First time is a charm at the Nola (New Orleans) Indigo…for doggie too!

I’ve been to Nola before, loved it. The wild and crazy feeling is indescribable. Maybe after a frozen daiquiri my mind will go there…but for now, suffice it to say: it’s a lawless town where you may start to feel crazy. Kind of like Las Vegas. But much cooler…why? Because it’s real. The culture here runs deep. If you drive in, you will start to notice the French names for roads and buildings long before you are even near New Orleans. It sort of prepares you…as do the long bridges that carry you into the city. It’s a different world, in every way. My boyfriend mentioned that he had to keep reminding himself that he wasn’t in Europe. (Spoiled thing to say, right? Haha) But there isn’t a more European city in the US than Nola. In Canada, there is Montreal. If you love Montreal, you will adore New Orleans…provided you can take the heat.

Heat? Yes! It’s darn hot…even for a girl who was raised in south Florida and resides in HOTlanta. Hot and humid. Steamy. My dog almost died! Not really, but he did need to drink a LOT of iced water tonight.

I’m always rambling…the purpose of having a blog?  It’s to help,  yes. My main mission is to find people the best trips ever, for the Best prices…so they can travel a lot instead of once or twice a year, because life without travel, well it’s just not living!

So we are here in Nola at this hotel which really by far surpasses my expectations of a hotel within it’s category, and most importantly – price point. (Always go by price-point if comparing…though you can get an amazing deal! A 300$ hotel will always be differ than a 500$ hotel..even if they are in the same area and both 5 stars- sorry! Just get the 300$ one for half and you will be satisfied ;))

We are staying  at the Indigo, and we LOVE it! Last time I felt the value was this great was L’hermitage in Vancouver! Indigo is stylish, friendly, posh, w great views, great beds, Aveda bath products, AND they accept dogs up to 80lbs. I have to say, I would certainly stay here again, in fact, I intend to!

I do wish room service was 24 hours. One small thing. Besides that, I really can’t find flaw…well…oh, wait, there is one other little thing: no mini-bar. Sad when you walk into your gorgeous room and want th shout out the window how pleased you are w it, when it’s time to toast your luck! When you’re in a roomy queen suite with every thing you need to be happy for a few days, besides perhaps some bottled water, some pretzels, and some champagne! Problems! Haha. Not really, but I would rate them a 6 on a scale of 1-5 if they added 24 hr room service and a mini-bar.

Hotel Indigo is on the trolley line, though that segment is under repair. If you just go left when you walk out the door until you see a Wendy’s, the trolly picks up there. Yes, the trolly is dog friendly too!  We walked back from the French quarter and it was about a 30 min walk. Very hot! But beautiful.

New Orleans is an amazing city and I plan to return once the weather is a bit cooler for a weekend trip. It’s about 7 hours driving from Atlanta, so very doable if you are feeling inspired, or just craving some crawfish étouffée 😉

  1. I know exactly where that Hotel Indigo is… had my daughter actually decided to attend Tulane, we would have stayed there a lot.

I actually love Hotel Indigo’s. I’ve stayed at 2 of them and really try to stay at them if it’s an option. My favorite one is in Asheville, NC. You can always get good deals there on Hotwire. The other one where I’ve stayed is Athens, GA which is close to the UGA campus. Both are modern and have lots of nice touches and conveniences that you don’t get at other hotels, along with quirky but cool decor. And you definitely can get good deals at Hotel Indigo’s.
