Little extras that make a trip special

My birthday just passed and two of my favorite gifts were a hand-bound aqua  colored journal  and a tiny mercury glass candle with a honeysuckle aroma. The reason I loved these items so much is they are on my list of things to bring on any trip.      The list……

  • Simple and clean lines in a historic building made the Mercer a blissful place to be. The foie gras on room service menu wasn't bad either.

  • a well made rollerball pen (cartier and Mont Blanc are favorites but there are many pens worth having and pens could become a side obsession at some point) (black ink in a medium or large tip makes drawing more pleasurable)
  • a travel journal, preferably unlined so that sketching is possible. Sometimes it’s easier to say in pictures.
  • ipad aka “my precious”  and hurray for hotels w free wifi!!
  • A good book. Must have! Sometimes a second book  is necessary on a longer trip, a beach trip, or a cruise where there is just so much time to read
  • Bubble bath! Or tiny tin of bath salts. V important!
  • a small tinned or glass travel candle (for the bath of course)
  • waterproof playing cards- just in case 😉
  • travel samples of facial masks and scrubs
  • sleeping eye mask for the plane or in case the black out drapes have a gap or two…the ones that allow your eyes to blink insure that you get REM sleep
  • Activated charcoal for any stomach issues or even if you’ve had one two many glasses of champs or ordering that second pitcher of sangria was a mistake ;
  • melatonin to encourage healthy sleep cycles
